About Edi Rama
In 2013, he was elected as Albania's 32nd Prime Minister by the Albanian Socialist Party. He previously served as the Mayor of the city of Tirana for over a decade, during which time he spearheaded the Return to Identity Project, which removed many of the city's illegally-constructed buildings.
Edvin ¨Edi¨ Rama, is an Albanian politician, painter, writer, journalist, educator and former basketball player, currently the 33rd Prime Minister of Albania. Rama has also been president of the Socialist Party of Albania since 2005. Before being elected prime minister, Rama held a number of other positions. He was appointed Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports in 1998, holding the post until 2000. He was first elected mayor of Tirana in 2000, then re-elected in 2003. and 2007. In 2013, the Rama-led center-left coalition of parties won the 2013 parliamentary elections, defeating the democratic right-wing coalition of outgoing Prime Minister Sali Berisha of Albania. He was elected Prime Minister for a second term in the 2017 elections. Rama was one of the initiators of the Mini Schengen Zone, an economic zone in the Western Balkans aimed at guaranteeing the “four freedoms”.
