After two years with the Universidad de Chile, he joined Napoli in 2012 as a forward/winger. In 2010, he was named to the Chilean national squad, and in 2017, he joined Tigres UANL.

Eduardo Jesús Vargas Rojas is a Chilean professional footballer who plays as a striker for Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro and the Chilean national team. Emerging as one of the top talents at Cobreloa, Vargas joined the Universidad de Chile, where he won three trophies, including the 2011 Copa Sudamericana, where he was named player of the tournament. In 2011, he was co-awarded with the Chilean Player of the Year award and was also the finalist for South American Football Player of the Year. After moving to £ 11.5million Napoli, Vargas had subsequent loan periods at Grêmio, Valencia and Queens Park Rangers before moving to 1899 Hoffenheim in 2015. Nationwide since 2010, Vargas has has more than 90 caps for Chile, scoring 38 goals. He was featured in their squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Copa América 2015, Copa América Centenario, FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 and Copa América 2019
