In April 2016, Welteroth was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Teen Vogue, making her the second African-American legacy in Condé Nast's 107-year history to hold the title. Promoting the editor at the age of 29 made her the second youngest editor in Condé Nast history, after Teen Vogue EIC Lindsay Pe People's Wagner, who was 28 when she started acting in Condé Nast. When Welteroth became Beauty Director of Teen Vogue in 2012, Welteroth was the first African to take on the role. She is known for Teen Vogue's remarkable rise in politics and social justice, encouraging readers to participate in civic activities, especially during the 2016 US Presidential Election
