Adele Emily Sandé, known by her stage name Emeli Sandé, is an English singer and songwriter. Born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear and raised in Alford, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to an English mother and a Zambian father, Sande rose to fame after becoming a leading artist on the 2009 Chipmunk year song "Diamond Rings" . This is the first single from their top 10 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2010, she starred in rapper Wiley's "Never Be Your Woman", another top 10 hit. In 2012, she received the Critics' Choice Award from the Brit Awards. Sandé released her first solo single "Heaven" in August 2011. She has two number one singles across the UK and Ireland with "Read All About It" alongside Professor Green and "Beneath Your Beautiful", in cooperation with Labrinth. His album Our Version of Events had ten consecutive weeks at number one and became the UK's top-selling album of 2012, with over a million copies sold.
