Eric Chong is a Canadian chef who became the winner of the first season of Masterchef Canada at the age of 21. He received his chemical engineering degree from McMaster University and began to work in the field, but stopped hearing the invitation to recruit for MasterChef Canada. After winning the competition, Chong received an offer from Alvin Leung, one of the judges, to train with him and open a restaurant together. Leung noted similarities between him and Chong, such as their technical background and their family initially disapproving of their business option. They opened their R&D in Toronto in 2015, serving Asian fusion dishes like lobster chow mein, inspired by their winning dish in the final. Chong later appeared in MasterChef Canada season 3, where two R & D kitchen recovery teams served various program alumni and were judged on their performance.
