About Eric Idle
A member of the legendary Monty Python comedy trio wrote the blockbuster Broadway musical Spamalot. He first became recognized to American audiences in 1978, when NBC aired All You Need Is Cash, a mockumentary film he wrote and starred in that was a parody of The Beatles movies.
Eric Idle is an English actor, writer, comedian and musician. Idle is a former member of the British surrealist comedy group Monty Python and parody rock group The Rutles, and songwriter and lyricist of the Broadway musical Spamalot. Famous for his puns and complex amount of music, Idle has performed many Python songs, including “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” and “Galaxy Song”. After Monty Python's Flying Circus, he hosted Saturday Night Live in the United States four times in his first five seasons. The beginnings of Idle's successful solo career collapsed in the 1990s with failures in the 1993 films Splitting Heirs and 1998 An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn. Returning to its world famous roots, adapting Monty Python's documentation to other media. After the success of the musical Spamalot, he also wrote Not the Messiah, an oratorio that originated in Brian's life.

While studying English at Pembroke College in Cambridge, he became the first president of the Cambridge University Footlights Club to allow women membership. Later in his career, he co-starred in the children's television comedy series Do Not Adjust Your Set with Terry Jones and Michael Palin, both of whom would go on to become future Pythons.
