Erna Solberg is a Norwegian politician who has served as Prime Minister of Norway since 2013 and led the Conservative Party since May 2004. She was nicknamed "Iron Erna", based on Margaret's nickname Thatcher, "Iron Lady". Solberg was first elected to Storting in 1989, and was Minister of Local Government and Regional Development in Bondevik's Second Cabinet from 2001 to 2005. During her tenure, she oversaw the tightening of immigration policy and prepared a proposal for the reform of Norwegian administrative units. After the 2005 election, she chaired the Conservative Party caucus until 2013. Solberg underlined the social and ideological basis of Conservative Party policy, although it has also clearly become more pragmatic. After winning the September 2013 elections, Solberg became the 28th Prime Minister of Norway and the second woman to hold the post, after Gro Harlem Brundtland.
