About Frank Borman
Commander of the Apollo 8 mission, the first time a group of astronauts circled the moon. He has been a member of the Gemini 7 mission before.
Frank Frederick Borman II is a retired U.S. Air Force colonel, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, businessman, breeder, and NASA astronaut. He was the commander of Apollo 8, the first mission to fly around the moon, and with teammates Jim Lovell and Bill Anders, he became the first of 24 to do so, thanks to him. Assembly. In 2020, he is the oldest living American astronaut, 11 days older than Lovell. Four days before graduating with the West Point class in 1950, ranked eighth out of 670, Borman entered service with the United States Air Force. He qualifies as a fighter pilot and serves in the Philippines. He received a Master of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1957, then became an Assistant Professor of Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics at West Point.
