Gary James Kemp is an English singer, songwriter, musician and actor known as the lead guitarist, sub-vocalist and lead musician of the New Romantic Spandau Ballet group. Kemp wrote the lyrics and music for 23 hit Spandau Ballet singles, including "To Cut a Long Story Short", "True", "Gold", "Chant No. 1", "Through the Barricades" and "Only. When You Quit ". The Spandau Ballet has grown into one of Britain's largest groups in the 1980s, generating more than 25 million records worldwide. In 2012, Kemp was awarded the Ivor Novello Award for the Best Song Collection. His brother Martin Kemp plays the bass guitar in the band and is also an actor. In April 2019, Gary Kemp was touring the United States with Nick Mason's band Saucerful of Secrets and said in an interview: "There are no plans for Spandau in 2020."
