From 1990 through 2003, he was the Seattle SuperSonics' point guard nicknamed as"The Glove". He was a two-time All-NBA First Team selection and appeared in nine NBA All-Star games.
Gary Dwayne Payton Sr. is a former American professional basketball player who previously played in a point guard position. He is best known for his 13-year tenure with the Seattle SuperSonics and holds the Seattle franchise record for points, assists, and steals. He has also played with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat. Payton won the NBA Championship with Heat in 2006. With the nickname "The Glove" due to his defensive skills, Payton was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. Payton is considered by many to be one of the most great point defenders all the time. He is the only point defender to win the NBA's Best Defense Player award. He has been selected nine times to the NBA's All-Power Team, an NBA record he shares with Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett and Kobe Bryant. He's also a nine-time NBA All-Star member and a nine-time All-NBA Team member.
