George Washington Rains was an officer in the United States Army and later as an officer in the United States Federal Army. A qualified engineer and inventor; he was instrumental in providing the Confederacy with much needed gunpowder during the American Civil War. He is also the brother of the Allied General of the South Gabriel J. Discount.
