From 1991 until 1997, he was a member of the Italian national team. He played for six different clubs during his career, the most notable of which being Chelsea from 1996 to 2003.

Gianfranco Zola is an Italian soccer coach and former soccer player who mainly plays as a striker. He was most recently the assistant manager of Chelsea. He spent the first decade of his playing career in Italy, notably in Napoli, alongside Diego Maradona and Careca, where he was able to win the Serie A championship, and in Parma, where he won the Super Cup of Italy and the UEFA Cup. He later moved to English club Chelsea, where he was voted Football Writers' Player of the Year for the 1996–97 season. While at the club, he won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, two FA Cups, the League Cup and the Community Shield. In 2003, he was voted Chelsea's best player of all time. He has 35 times been selected for the Italian team since making his debut in 1991, appearing at the 1994 World Cup, where Italy finished second and at Euro 1996
