Arenas attended Grant High School in Los Angeles's Valley Glen County and was awarded a scholarship to the University of Arizona at the end of his freshman year. He was drafted by the Golden State Warriors with the 31st overall vote in NBA Draft 2001. Arenas was a member of the NBA All-Star three-time, three-time All-NBA team and was voted the NBA's Most Improved Player of the 2002–03 season. Arenas has been nicknamed "Agent 0" because of his old shirt number and ability to shoot late. It is also nicknamed "Hibachi", a nod to the small Japanese barbecue appliance, literally meaning "fire bowl".
