Maria Gloria Macaraeg Macapagal Arroyo, commonly known by its GMA abbreviations, is a Filipino scholar and politician who served as the 14th President of the Philippines from 2001 to 2010. Before assuming the presidency, she was the 10th Vice President of the Philippines from 1998 to 2001, and was a senator from 1992 to 1998. After the presidency, she was elected as the representative of District 2 of Pampanga in 2010 and later became president. holds the House of Representatives from 2018 until retirement in 2019. She is the first woman to hold two of the country's highest positions: Vice President and Chairman of the House of Representatives. The daughter of former President Diosdado Macapagal, she studied economics at Georgetown University in the United States, where she began a long friendship with her classmate and future US President Bill Clinton.
