Heather Nicholson is an English animal rights activist. Nicholson is known for co-founding three animal rights campaigns in Britain in the 1990s with then-husband Greg Avery. In 1997, the first campaign, the Consort Beagles, closed the Consort Kennels, which bred eagles for animal testing laboratories. In 1999, Save the Hill Grove Cats closed Hill Grove Farm, which houses cats for the labs, after a two-year campaign led by Nicholson and Avery. That year Nicholson, Avery and Natasha Dellemagne founded Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty to shut down Huntingdon Life Sciences, a contract animal testing company. The campaign failed and was closed in 2014. In 2009, Nicholson was sentenced to 11 years in prison for blackmail conspiracy linked to the SHAC campaign. Six other senior SHAC activists, including Avery and Dellemagne, were jailed on the same charges. All have been accused by the police of being key figures of the Animal Liberation Front.
