She is a politician and worldwide leader most known for her three periods as Prime Minister of New Zealand, from 1999 to 2008. She went on to become the Administrator of the UN Development Programme.
Helen Elizabeth Clark is a New Zealand politician who served as New Zealand's 37th Prime Minister from 1999 to 2008 and administrator of the United Nations Development Program from 2009 to 2017. She is New Zealand's fifth Prime Minister and the second woman to hold that position. Clark grew up on a ranch outside of Hamilton. She entered the University of Auckland in 1968 to study politics and was active in the New Zealand Labor Party. After graduating, she taught politics at university. Clark became involved in local politics in 1974 in Auckland but was not elected to any office. After an unsuccessful attempt, she was elected to Congress in 1981 as a Member of Mount Albert, a constituency she represented until 2009. Clark held several positions in the Labor government.
