Inul Daratista is a singer and performer dangdut from Pasuruan, East Java, Indonesia. She became nationally popular in 2003 and is known for her sexy dance style that caused great controversy in Indonesia. Inul is a broken version of Ainur, and is the singer's childhood pet name. At the start of her musical career, singing in a "rock" group, she took the stage name Daratista. Inul Daratista gained national popularity after a televised concert in January 2003 in Jakarta. Her dance moves, which she calls Goyang Inul, goyang-gerudi or ngebor, quickly become the source of controversy due to her hip movements. Some conservative Muslim organizations like the Indonesian Islamic Council have called for his concerts to be banned.
