Toney became the youngest player to represent Northampton Town on his team debut in 2012, and scored 13 goals in 60 games in all competitions before joining Newcastle United in 2015. In his first season at Newcastle, he was twice loaned to Barnsley. , won the Football League trophy and League 1 play-offs.
