John Thomas "Jack" Kane is an Australian politician. Born in Burraga, New South Wales, he was educated at Catholic schools in Lithgow, then he became a coal miner. He was Vice President of the Federation of Transportation Workers from 1952 to 1956 and Deputy Secretary General of the New South Wales Labor Party from 1952-1955. In 1955, he was expelled from the Labor Party, along with many other members, and together with them formed the Australian Labor Party, which became the Labor Democratic Party. He is Secretary-General of NSW DLP 1956–1971 and Federal Secretary 1957–71. In 1970, he was elected to the Australian Senate as the DLP Senator of New South Wales. Kane's election to the Senate was the result of ALP's New South Wales branch's decision to favor DLP tickets over Australia's top party candidate, TV host Diana Ward.
