Jacob Benjamin Gyllenhaal is an American actor and producer. Born into the Gyllenhaal family, he is the son of director Stephen Gyllenhaal and screenwriter Naomi Foner. He began acting as a child, first starring in City Slickers, followed by roles in his father's films A Dangerous Woman and Homegrown. His breakout roles were Homer Hickam in October Sky and a mentally troubled teenager in Donnie Darko. The disaster film The Day After Tomorrow is his most watched movie to date. Gyllenhaal won a BAFTA award and received an Oscar nomination for the role of Jack Twist in Ang Lee Brokeback Mountain's romance movie. His career advanced with leading roles in the horror film Zodiac, the romantic comedy Love & Other Drugs and the sci-fi film Source Code.
