James Philip Milner is an English professional soccer player who plays for Premier League club Liverpool as vice captain. As a versatile player, he has been used in a variety of positions including winger, midfielder and full-back. Milner's talent in football, cricket and long-distance running was recognized from an early age. He represented his school in these sports and plays soccer for amateur teams from Rawdon and Horsforth. He has supported Leeds United from a young age and is the season ticket holder at the club. In 1996, he joined the Leeds Youth Academy. He made his first-team debut in 2002 at the age of 16 and became the youngest player to score in the Premier League, then spent time on loan at Swindon Town to gain more first-team experience. After relegation from Leeds United at the end of the 2003–04 season, Milner was sold to Newcastle United.
