Jermain Colin Defoe is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Scottish club Rangers. Defoe also played for the England national team. Defoe started his career with Charlton Athletic, joining their youth team at the age of 14, before joining West Ham United at 16 and advancing greatly. He made his first-team debut for West Ham in 2000 and after a one-season loan at Bournemouth in the 2000-01 season he secured his place in West Ham's squad. After relegation from West Ham in 2003, a move to Tottenham Hotspur in January 2004 quickly followed, where Defoe played for four years before being sold to Portsmouth in January 2008. He spent a season tournament at Fratton Park before returning to Tottenham in the January 2009 transfer window. He left Toronto FC from Major League Soccer in 2014, before returning to England in January 2015 to sign Sunderland.
