Jerome Michael Adams is an American anesthesiologist and former Deputy Admiral of the US Public Health Service Commission Corps, who served as the 20th US Surgeon General from September 5, 2017 to January 20, 2021. Prior to becoming General Surgeon, he served as Indiana Health Commissioner from 2014 to 2017. On June 29, 2017, President Donald Trump appointed Adams to be the General Surgeon of the United States. Adams was confirmed by the US Senate on August 3, 2017
