Jessica Ulrika Meir is a Swedish-American astronaut, marine biologist and physiologist at NASA. She previously worked as Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after doing postdoctoral studies in Comparative Physiology at the University of British Columbia. She has studied the physiology and recessive behavior of Antarctic emperor penguins and the physiology of the male goose, which can migrate in the Himalayas. In September 2002, Meir served as a sailor in the NASA 4 Extreme Environmental Mission crew. In 2013, she was selected by NASA to be in Astronaut Group 21. Meir launched September 25, 2019 on the ISS aboard the Soyuz MS-15, where she used to be a flight engineer on Expeditions 61 and 62. On October 18, 2019, Meir and Christina Koch were the first women. participate in women's space walks.
