James Edward Rice, nicknamed "Jim Ed", is a former Major League left hand and designated hitter. He was inducted into Baseball Fame Hall on July 26, 2009, as the 103rd member voted by BBWAA. Rice played his entire 16-year baseball career for the Boston Red Sox. Rice won eight American All-Star titles and was named AL's Player of the Year in 1978 after becoming the tournament's first major player in 19 years to reach a total of 400 goals. He became the ninth player to lead major tournaments on an aggregate basis for consecutive seasons. He joined Ty Cobb as one of the two top players in AL on a total of three consecutive years. He shot 300 seven times, got 100 points in eight times and 200 hit four times, and had 11 seasons with 20 host players. He has also led the league home circuit three times, RBI and missed odds twice each.
