These books form the basis of a popular series in which Rowling approved the entire script and produced the final films. She also wrote a detective novel under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Born in Yate, Gloucestershire, Rowling was working as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International in 1990 when she conceived of the Harry Potter series while on a train.
