On television, he is known to play Dr. Emil Skoda in the NBC Law & Order series, Vernon Schillinger in the HBO Oz series, and Sheriff's Assistant Will Pope in TNT's The Closer. From 2017 to 2019 he played the role of Howard Silk in the Starz Counterpart series. His film roles include J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy and music instructor Terence Fletcher in Whiplash for which he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. He is known to have played Cave Johnson in the video game Portal 2, Tenzin in The Legend of Korra, Stanford "Ford" Pines in Gravity Falls, Kai in Kung Fu Panda 3, Mayor Leodore Lionheart in Zootopia, the main character of Klaus, and Omni Man in the Amazon Prime action animated series Invincible. He has re-enacted his role as Jameson on many Marvel media unrelated to the Sam Raimi trilogy, including many animated series and Marvel Cinematic Universe Spider-Man: Far From Home.
