Joseph Steven Sakic is an executive and former professional Canadian ice hockey player. He has played his entire 21-year career in the National Hockey League with the Quebec Nordiques / Colorado Avalanche franchise. Appointed as captain in 1992, Sakic is widely regarded as one of the greatest leaders in tournament history and has always been able to motivate his team to compete on a winning level. Sakic led Avalanche to the Stanley Cup Championship in 1996 and 2001, was named top player of the playoff round in 1996, and was named NHL MVP in 2001 by hockey songwriters and his players. He was one of six players to participate in the two Stanley Cup team wins. Sakic was also named to play 13 NHL All-Star games and was selected three times for the NHL's First Team of the Year. Throughout his career, Sakic has been one of the game's most effective attackers, scoring 50 goals twice and at least 100 points in six different seasons.
