Sir John Phillip Key is a retired New Zealand politician who served as New Zealand's 38th Prime Minister from 2008 to 2016 and led the National Party of New Zealand from 2006 to 2016. After resigning. Both positions in December 2016 and leaving politics, Key was appointed to the board of directors and president of companies in New Zealand. Born in Auckland before moving to Christchurch as a child, Key attended the University of Canterbury and in 1981 graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce. He began his career in the Forex market in New Zealand before moving overseas to work for Merrill Lynch, where he became head of the global forex division in 1995, a position he held in six years. In 1999, he was appointed a member of the Exchange Commission of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York until he left in 2001 .
