About John Paul Jones
Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter best recognized as a cofounder of the multi-platinum and diamond rock band Led Zeppelin, best known for songs such as"Stairway to Heaven" and"Black Dog".
John Paul Jones was the first famous US naval commander in the American Revolutionary War. He befriended many of the political elite of the United States, as well as the enemy, and his actions in British waters during the Revolution earned him a continuing international reputation for to this day. Thus, he is sometimes referred to as "the Father of the United States Navy". Jones was born and raised in Scotland, became a sailor and served as the commanding officer of several merchants. After killing one of its crew members with a sword, he fled to the Colony of Virginia and, around 1775, joined the New Continental Navy in their war against Great Britain. during the American War for Independence. He commanded US Navy ships based in France, leading a failed attack on Britain and several attacks on British merchant ships. Without command in 1787, he joined the Imperial Russian Navy and earned the rank of Rear Admiral.
