John Francis Tortorella is an American former professional ice hockey player and coach. He is the Head Coach of Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. Tortorella was previously the head coach of New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning and Vancouver Canucks; he led Tampa Bay to the 2004 Stanley Cup Championship. He was the first US-born coach to have won 500 wins and twice won the Jack Adams Prize as top coach by NHL. Tortorella is known for his straightforward and sometimes confrontational nature, which has caused considerable criticism for his players as well as members of the media.
