14-time MLB All-Star In 1975 and 1976, he was an All-Star catcher who helped the Cincinnati Reds win the World Series. In 1970 and 1972, he was named National League MVP, and in 1976, he was chosen World Series MVP. ESPN has dubbed him the greatest catcher in baseball history.
Johnny Lee Bench is an American former professional baseball player. He played his entire career in the Major League Baseball, which ran from 1967 to 1983, with the Cincinnati Reds, primarily a broadcaster. Bench is the leader of the Red Devils team known as the Great Red Machine that dominated the National League in the mid-1970s, winning six championships, four League flags and two World Series championships. Fourteen times All-Star and twice MVP National League, Bench excelled in both attack and defense, leading the NHL twice in terms of points at home and three times in points. At the time of retiring in 1983, he held the grand tournament record for most home runs being touched on a receiver. He is also the only receiver in history to lead the league in home games. In terms of defense, Bench has won the Golden Gloves award 10 times for his skillful handling of land and has a powerful and precise throwing arm.
