Jolyon Palmer is a UK sports racing columnist and columnist covering the Formula 1 World Championship on BBC Radio 5 and the official F1 app. Prior to pursuing his career in media, Palmer was a driver and 2014 GP2 Series champion. Palmer drove for the Renault Sport F1 Team in Formula 1. He made his Formula 1 debut with the team at the start of the 2016 season in which he scored his first World Championship score at the Malaysian Grand Prix. Palmer stayed with Renault in 2017 until the Japanese Grand Prix. Palmer, the son of former F1 driver and great British track owner Jonathan Palmer, was educated at Dorset House School, then attended Cranleigh School and the University of Nottingham. He drove for the Lotus Formula One team as a test driver in 2015, taking the racing seat full time the following season, when the team received backing from the Renault manufacturer.
