On May 22, 2010, an American mountain climber became the youngest person to conquer Mount Everest. He was 13 years, 10 months and 10 days old when he reached the summit of Everest.

Jordan Romero is an American mountaineering athlete, when he reached Mount Everest when he was only 13 years old. Romero was accompanied by his father, Paul Romero, his stepmother, Karen Lundgren, and three people Sherpa, Ang Pasang Sherpa, Lama Dawa Sherpa and Lama Karma Sherpa. The previous record for the youngest to climb Everest was held by Nepalese Ming Kipa, 15, when she reached the summit on May 22, 2003. After successfully trekking the Vinson massif in December 2011 at the age of 15 years, 5 months, 12 days, Romero became the youngest climber in the world to complete the Seven Summits, a title previously held by George Atkinson. After this experience, Romero wrote a children's novel called No Summit Out Of Sight.
