Julie Anne Smith, known professionally as Julianne Moore, is an American actress and author. Having been in love with cinema since the early 1990s, she is known for her roles as women with emotional trouble in successful independent films. She has received many awards, including an Oscar, two Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. Time magazine named Moore as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2015. In 2020, the New York Times ranked her 11th on its list of the 25 greatest actors of the 21st century. Studying theater at Boston University, Moore began his career with a series of television roles. From 1985 to 1988, she regularly participated in the soap opera As the World Turns, winning the Day Emmy Award for her performance. Her film debut was in Tales from the Darkside: The Movie, and she went on to play minor roles for the next four years, including in the horror film The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.
