5-time All-Star first baseman who led the St. Louis Cardinals to the 1982 World Series and the New York Mets to the 1986 World Series. In 1979, he won the National League MVP Award and the hitting title, and from 1978 to 1988, he won 11 consecutive Gold Glove Awards.

Keith Hernandez was the first former US basketball player in the Major League baseball tournament, who has played most of his career with St. Petersburg Louis Cardinals and New York Mets. Hernandez was the five-time All-Star that shared the NL MVP award in 1979 and won two World Series titles, each with Cardinals and Mets. As a contact player with a career average of 296 and a walking rate of 12.5%, Hernandez's career performance is 31% higher than the league average. For his defensive work, he received the Golden Gloves award for 11 consecutive seasons, being the most first batter in baseball history. Hernandez is considered by many to be the best defensive player in his position in baseball history. Hernandez retired as an active player after spending a year with the Cleveland Indians in 1990.
