He found a job as a session guitarist before forming a band called The Ranch, recording a studio album on Capitol Nashville and winning two singles on the US Billboard Hot Country Song Chart. Still signed with the Capitol, Urban made his solo debut in the United States in 1999 with his second album of the same name. Certified platinum in the United States by the RIAA, he made his No. 1 spot on the Hot Country Songs chart with "But for the Grace of God". “Somebody Like You,” the first single from his second Capitol album, Golden Road, was named by Billboard as the greatest country hit of the 2000s. The fourth single from the album, “You're Think. Of Me ", won him his first Grammy. .
