Kevin Michael Rudd is a politician with the Australian Labor Party, served as Australia's 26th Prime Minister, serving twice, from December 2007 to June 2010 and again from June 2013 to September. 2013. Born in Nambour, Queensland, Rudd graduated from the Australian National University. with a major in Chinese studies and fluent in Mandarin. Before entering politics, he worked as a diplomat and as a civil servant for the Goss government. Rudd was elected to the House of Representatives in the 1998 elections for the Griffith division. He was promoted to the Shadow Cabinet in 2001 as Minister of Shadow Foreign Affairs. In December 2006, he successfully challenged Kim Beazley to the leadership position of the Labor Party, becoming Leader of the Opposition. Rudd led Labor to a landslide victory in the 2007 election, defeating the Howard government.
