Kiriko Takemura, known by the stage name Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, is a Japanese singer and model. Its public image, linked to the kawaii and decorative culture of Japan, is concentrated in the Harajuku district of Tokyo. Kyary's music was produced by musician Yasutaka Nakata of the electronic music duo Capsule. His 2011 single "PONPONPON" reached the top 10 of the Japanese Oricon charts; the 2012 singles "Candy Candy" and "Fashion Monster" followed suit. Since then, Kyary has released four long albums: Pamyu Pamyu Revolution, Nanda Collection, Pika Pika Fantajin and Japamyu. Although much of her success is a recording artist in Asia, she has also gained popularity in Western countries in part thanks to viral videos on the internet which have gone viral. The media called Kyary "The Harajuku Girl" and she has been photographed for magazines like Dazed & Confused. In 2013, she signed a distribution contract with Sire Records to release her material in the United States.
