Lance Edward Armstrong is an American former professional road cyclist. He is known to have won the Tour de France seven times in a row, from 1999 to 2005, the most in the history of the event, after recovering from testicular cancer. Armstrong's reputation has been tarnished by a doping scandal and he has been stripped of every record since August 1998, including the Tour de France title. At the age of 16, Armstrong began playing as a triathlon and national sprint triathlon champion in 1989 and 1990. In 1992, Armstrong began his career of a professional cyclist with the Motorola team. He achieved success between 1993 and 1996 with the World Championship in 1993, the Clásica de San Sebastián tournament in 1995, the Tour DuPont in 1995 and 1996, and several leg wins in Europe, including the 8th leg of Tour de France 1993 and leg 18 of Tour de France 1995. In 1996, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening metastatic testicular cancer.
