Leo Eric Varadkar is an Irish politician and physician, Fine Gael, who has been Tánaist and Minister for Business, Trade and Employment since June 2020 and Leader of Fine Gael since June 2017. He is Teachta Dála for the Dublin constituency West since 2007. He was Taoiseach and Minister of Defense from 2017 to 2020, Minister of Social Protection from 2016 to 2017, Minister of Health from 2014 to 2016 and Minister of Transport, Tourism and Sports from 2011 to 2014 Varadkar was born in Dublin and studied medicine at Trinity College, Dublin. He spent several years as a non-consulting hospital doctor, then graduated as a general practitioner in 2010. In 2004 he joined Fine Gael and became a member of the Fingal district council and then vice-mayor of Fingal. He was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2007
