The loonie, officially a Canadian dollar, is the gold coin of the Canadian dollar introduced in 1987 and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint at its base in Winnipeg. The most popular versions of the coin show a regular loon, a bird found across Canada, on the reverse, and Queen Elizabeth II, Head of State, on the reverse. Various commemorative and specimen versions of the coin with a special design replacing the loonie on the back have been cast for many years. The contour of the part is an 11-sided Reuleaux polygon. Its diameter of 26.5 mm and its 11 ridges correspond to the diameter of Susan B. Anthony dollars in the United States, and its 1.95mm thickness is almost identical to the 2.0mm of the latter. Its gold color differs from the silver color of Anthony dollars; However, Sacagawea and the Presidential Dollar then match the loonie's overall colors.
