Louis Sachar is a mysterious American teenage comedian. He is known for the Wayside School series and the novel The Hole. Holes won the US National Book Award for Children's Literature in 1998 and the 1999 Newbery Medal for "Best Contribution to American Children's Literature" of the year. In 2013, it was ranked sixth among all children's novels in a survey published by the School Library Journal.
