Marcelo Alberto Bielsa Caldera is an Argentinian professional football coach and head coach of Premier League club Leeds United. He is a former player and has played as a defender for Old Boys de Newell, Instituto de Córdoba and Argentino de Rosario. Bielsa used to play as a defender for the Newell's Old Boys Premier League team, but retired at the age of 25 to focus on coaching work. Bielsa has managed several football clubs and the national teams of Argentina and Chile. He developed his career as a coach of Newell's Old Boys, where he won several trophies in the early 1990s, before moving to Mexico in 1992, training briefly for The Atlas Club and Club América. Bielsa returned to Argentina in 1997 to lead Vélez Sarsfield, which led them to the 1998 championship. With Chile, he gained notoriety thanks to the improved results of the country under his leadership.
