Marek Hamšík is a Slovak professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Swedish club Allsvenskan IFK Göteborg and the Slovak national team of which he is the captain. After starting his club career with Slovan Bratislava in 2004, Hamšík joined Italian club Brescia later that year. In 2007 he was bought by newly promoted Serie A club Napoli where he became a mainstay of the squad's starting lineup. His energy, leadership, creativity, skills and midfielder perspectives helped him play a key role in helping the team win two Coppa Italia titles, a Supercoppa Italiana, an assist to UEFA Champions League and the semi-finals of the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League. He has scored 121 club goals and made 521 appearances in all competitions during his 12 seasons with the team, also being the club captain from 2014 to 2019; he became the club's all-time top scorer in 2017 and the club's all-time best player in 2018 .
