Matteo Renzi is an Italian politician who was Prime Minister of Italy from 2014 to 2016. He was a senator from Florence from 2018. Renzi is described by political observers as a center and a libertarian. Renzi held the leadership of Italia Viva from 2019, as secretary of the Democratic Party from 2013 to 2018, with a brief hiatus in 2017. After having been president of the province of Florence from 2004. to 2009 and mayor of Florence from 2009 until 2014, Renzi was elected secretary of the Democratic Party in 2013, becoming Prime Minister the following year. At the age of 39, Renzi became the youngest person to hold the post of Prime Minister and the youngest leader of the G7. He is also the first sitting mayor to become prime minister.
