Matthias Schoenaerts is a Belgian actor, film producer and graffiti artist. He made his film debut at the age of 13 in Daens, nominated for the Oscar for best foreign language film. He is best known for his roles as Filip in Loft, Jacky Vanmarsenille in Bullhead nominated for Oscar, Ali in BAFTA and Rust and Bone nominated for Golden Globe, he won the César for best actor, Eric Deeds in The Drop, Bruno von Falk in the French Suite, Gabriel Oak in Far from the Madding Crowd, Hans Axgil in The Danish Girl and Uncle Vanya in Red Sparrow. The Schoenaerts were also critically acclaimed for his role as a veteran suffering from out-of-order PTSD and for his performance as a wild horse trainer in The Mustang. In 2015, he was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
