Michael Ballack is a former German professional footballer. He is one of the most influential players in the history of the German national team. Ballack has worn jersey number 13 for every team he's played with except 1. FC Kaiserslautern. He was voted by Pelé as one of the 100 best FIFA surviving players of FIFA and the UEFA Club Midfielder of the Year in 2002. He has won the Player of the Year award three times - on the years 2002, 2003 and 2005. Ballack is known for his ability to pass the ball, long shot, stamina and outstanding midfield presence. Ballack started his career at a young age with Chemnitzer FC, his hometown team, and made his professional debut in 1995. On March 26, 1996, Ballack made his debut for Germany under-21s. Although the team were relegated in their first season, their performance in Regionalliga the following season saw them transfer to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1997. He won the Bundesliga.
