In 2009, he was elected as the junior United States Senator from Colorado by the Democratic Party. He was the head of the Senate Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Forestry, and Natural Resources from 2005 until 2009.
Michael Farrand Bennet is an American businessman, lawyer and politician who has served as a United States Senator from Colorado since 2009. As a member of the Democratic Party, he was appointed to that seat when the Senate Ken Salazar became Minister of the Interior . Bennet was previously executive director of Anschutz Investment Company, chief of staff to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and principal of Denver Public Schools. Bennet is the son of Douglas J. Bennet, a former State Department official and president of Wesleyan University. Early in his career, Bennet worked for Ohio Governor Richard Celeste. He went on to earn his JD from Yale Law School, then worked as a lawyer and later an advisor to the Deputy Attorney General of the United States in the Bill Clinton administration. Bennet became the superintendent of Denver Public Schools in July 2005
