Michael Douglas Griffin is an American aviation physicist and engineer, serving as Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering from 2018 to 2020. As NASA Administrator, Griffin oversees fields like the future of man flying into space, the fate of the Hubble Telescope and NASA's role in understanding climate change. In April 2009, Griffin, who has a university education, was appointed Distinguished Fellow and Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Griffin worked at NASA before serving as a NASA administrator, including as a Discovery Administrator. When he was named director of NASA, he was head of the space department at the PLA at Johns Hopkins University in Laurel, Maryland.
